Course content
This course teaches owners how to make greetings easier before asking the dog to behave differently. The two practical greeting lessons cover visitors and entrances at home, greetings with people outside the home, brief dog-to-dog greetings, choosing not to greet and what to do when another person or dog approaches unexpectedly.
How to use the supporting lessons
Begin with Bonding and Neutrality so reinforcement, movement and attention do not automatically increase excitement. Use Calm Enrichment at Home to find activities that help this dog settle before visitors arrive and recover after a socially exciting event. Return to these supporting lessons whenever greetings become faster, noisier or harder for the dog to leave.
Recommended order
Bonding and Neutrality, then Calm Enrichment at Home, followed by Calm Greetings Without Overwhelm and Calm Greetings in Everyday Life. Owners can then revisit the greeting lesson that matches the situation they are currently practising. The more often you are able to practise these methods gently in everyday life wherever the behaviour is relevant, the faster learning is likely to progress; this is not a fixed timeframe or a reason to push, but useful micro-training woven into ordinary situations.
